SO i have put all components together, ( diode, axis module, driver, spring, host, heat sink) and its not working. i think it may be my soldering job thats causing it to fail. let me know!

HOLLY MOLLY!

The aixiz module is not a heatsink.. if you kept the soldering iron on the diode for more then 3-4 seconds its dead man.. sorry!

I cant really see it too well but that solder job is quite bodge no offence...

it is suposed to flow and be nice and shiney!

heres an example!

in my opionion you better check your driver is still working cause you might of stuffed that too... but for the diode if it survived the soldering the only other reason its not working is, that driver is dead, static charge killed it, current set too high on the driver, or power source issues.. my bet is on heat killed diode!

sorry for you loss :( maybe do a bit more research before you jump into this hobby is needed! -Adrian

Oh i know thats not the heatsink, haha, but im gonna try and re-solder the joints, and if that doesnt work, just start over on some things...

I dont think you understand! i was saying that the Aixiz module will not protect the diode from over heating ("its not a heat sink")

It most propably dead man! do as you will, but playing around with it will only cause more damage if you dont know what your doing (talking from experience!)

have fun be safe and dont rack up a bill! there are laser building services in the forum if your not too sure wat your doing!

oh, gotcha, well eh, ill try and if it doesnt work, what ever, i tried somethin new!
haha, also where on the forum is that, and how much does it run? cuz what im trying to build they have one for 82 on olike

Good thing my lasers don't know that. 'Cause all I've got for a heatsink is the Aixiz, and they're running fine since a long time. Sure, I can't leave them on for minutes on end (especially the red), but I don't need that. The Aixiz module IS a heat sink, just not a very good one.

However, I can see that the diode is not very well pressed into the Aixiz, it's still sticking out a bit. That might need amending.

Then, I can't make out which diode it is - it seems to have two ribbon cables attached which would make it the combo red/IR from the PHR sled, not the BR...? How many pins does it have?

Lastly (and I wonder why no-one asked this before), how did you set the current, and to which value?

Mainly cause its dead! I have told Chefryanhoward that more reading about this hobby is needed! he hast given us any info to go off so best thing to do is tell him where we think he went wrong and how not to do it again!

Indeed it goes with out saying Chefryanhoward has tried this without fully understanding all aspects of the build. there are many tutorials on the forum that will explain how and why he went wrong and how to actually get this working right..

No offence intended but i feel you need more experience/knowledge before you go jumping into this hobby.. please read more on the forum and if your not sure then please feel free to ask!

Are you sure that you have the positive pin of the diode soldered to the positive pad on the driver? The single pin in the picture appears to be the positive pin. The two soldered together look like the negative pin and the case pin.

It is hard for me to tell because you left the PCB on the diode, but it looks like it is connected backward. Also, you may be shorting stuff out with that solder job. "Pre-tin" your pins and use flux.
Then it is just a "touch" for connection.

Peace,
dave

Hello as you can see I'm new to laserpointerforums.... Thanks for such great info and resources...

So since my stay on here...
and after careful reviewed of many sites before making a account to post this..
To my dismay, It's my Blu-Ray 150mw laser diode was pre installed in Axzis housing... Heat sink is on its way 1" copper...

So I pre tin'd the diode and LM317, 7.5 Ohm Resister 100ohm resister,.. I was told by some website that the direction of resisters bands don't or should not matter so I used gold for + and use this pattern through out my project..
I also have a 1k ohm resister, a .01uF Cap don't know if polarity is messed on this either?
My Blu-Ray laser is in the Axiz pre done for me from axiz's well It does not light up...

I connected the 9volt power..
My driver does not make any noise.. or spark or nothing when I connect the 9volt..
I used a multimeter, but its old school and shows I have resistance but not much help...
It pegs the meter depending on my setting of my meter ohms or volts and such.

I plan to get a digital one later.
Hears my mix up..
I think my issue's are either the 100 Ohm Pot like the direction of the pins, 1,2,3....
there in line from left to right so it should be good as for direction of being backwards not so sure.. re tested after reversal and stil nothing then the cap.. being a AiI 47uF needs polarity accordingly......so the 47uF AI Cap has polarity long pin +

I'm using a strong 9volt nice and shiny solder job what else can it be?

I can send photos of my diode job via email....

p.s
I do have a extra cap unknown of size or placement location so I left it out.. very small yellow one. Any help would be great.... I looked all over no simple image like the Red diode driver kit had..
THx
