need help on this

Hi guys, well im not a bass guitar expert or an electronics expert,

but i need to help our church on this problem,

this bass guitar was donated to our church and its a 5 string bass guitar, the problem is the one who donated it is anonymous and we dont know what brand of bass guitar this one is because it does not contain any name..

well the bass guitar is functioning somehow but we noticed that its volume control is the only one working, the mid range, tone and bass knobs are disabled.

so what we did we checked at the back of the bass, we are surprised to see that the bass has a 9v battery compartment and at the wiring section of the bass guitar there is this pre-amp system..

the problem is there is this wire that got disconnected or was disconnected already when we opened the back cover..


the wiring is very messy...

anyway here is the picture of the front side of the bass

the knob located at the upper side is the volume knob..

I know nothing about the guitar. However, I am what is known as an old "plugger". So here are my thoughts

This begins with the assumption that it was working at one time

The end of the wire looks like (from the pictures) that it is simply a cold solder joint that broke loose. That means that **IF** no one has moved the wiring around before the pictures, the wire will retain its bends and shapes that it had when working.

Close the top down most of the way and observe where the end of the wire is. This should be close to where it was when it was working.

Now look at the solder joints around that area. If it is a broken cold solder joint, you should still be able to see the "impression" that the wire made in the solder joint. If you can match the wire to the impression, you have where it came loose from. Re-attach it and you will be back to the original wiring scheme.

If the wire was intentionally de-soldered, then the solder joint will have re-flowed and you should not be able to see any impression.

If the wire has been moved, examine the rest of the solder joints looking for that impression.
