So out of boredom, I decided to take apart my no longer used LG GH22NP20 DVD re-writer and to was lucky enough to find an open canned red diode which I then pressed into an Axis module which in turn got inserted into a custom made Aluminium heatsink with a small fan to keep things cool and was able to push it to around 3.2V and 700mA, after which, the output power seemed to decrease.
Problem is, I have no way of identifying this diode and therefore cannot know what is the maximum operating current as I would need the datasheet of the diode in order to do so.
I've posted a picture of it along with the details of the DVD unit in hopes of having a better chance of identifying what this diode could be.
