I want to know if there is a market on this board for self built nitrogen lasers here. Lets say that you could buy a TEA n2 laser from me for about 100-150 dollars would you bite?

**bites**

Gimme the pulse width, power, expected lifetime, and possibly a photo... and you could easily count me in... :D

<--- Loves gas lasers ;)

I know you are a scientist who likes graphs. but you need to understand that equipment that can measure energy for <4ns is very expensive. all I am guaranteeing is a working n2 laser. TEA n2 lasers have a peak power of greater than 100kw. A "real " n2 laser will set you back 5000 dollars. maybe 150 is way to cheap. i may raise prices to 1000 dollars

umm I wouldn't say that. Having stated your price, and obviously making a profit from it, you would probably be banned for making $900+ profit on an item when you could easily sell it to us cheap.

shipping might get horribly expensive.
building a n2 laser can be dirt cheap, but building a portable one now thats something.

No - there are guides available on the web on how to build your own N-laser for under $100.00.

Glowdye - Greed kills, you would do well to realize that - feel free to ask around some places what happens when people get greedy.

DDL - the one he is selling (If he has even MADE it yet) is most likely the same one publicized all over the net.

I am smelling a RAT here, Glowdye.....do NOT keep on pressing my buttons - it is very unwise.

I have been asking for UV laser possibilities for some time, these are still a little longer wavelength than my 266 nm ideal, but I want to test some materials for fluorescence and see if the Nitrogen or TEA can help with my projects! So I think I'd be very interested! ::)

i haven't even made it yet. I was being facetious. All i am trying to do is find out if there is a market and how much will people pay. I plan to offer a 6 month warranty 30 day money back guarantee. power supply is included.

$150 for a Ne sign Xfmr, a spark gap, some Al foil/flashing, and 2 small metal rods? are you still kidding us?

what about a reliable laser that is self contained, doesn't look like crap, and with a warranty.
So have you figured out how to preionize the channel so you won't get hotspots that kill the population inversion. i'd say that is worth atleast a hundred dollars.

The proof is in the pudding, as they say - show some pictures, or concept drawings.

I KNOW that this particular area is the buy-sell-trade section - but the whole concept of this forum is sharing of knowledge (at least in MY book it is) and I tend to snap off at folks when I think they are being greedy, and putting forth minimal effort - expecting maximum returns. Guess it realyl isn;t fair to impose my moral ideals on you, Glowdye - it just seems to me that the majority of your posts have been to sell items, and not talk lasery stuffs.

A NST can easily run you $180 new! spark gaps could be made of tungsten. Maybe once we gets some pics/data people would "bite" at it more!

Things, you can buy NST's and HeNe p/s on Fleabay for under $20 US easily. The guide I saw was a works forever N laser for $50 or so....nice little unit, but not my cup of tea (no offense)

In the 80's when i was a boy i fantasized and drew plans to put a ruby laser inside a ball point pen or a marker case. and when i was in 5th grade i wrote a book on how i built a laser for young authors. So if anybody here loves lasers its me.
