Hello!  :)
I just got done building a new Open Can Pocket Burner using the Sku.46 host from DX, a heatsink from Jayrob, and a diode from TheMonk. These hosts sure are a pain to build! :P Anyways, i have built many lasers using this host, but this one is awesome! 8-) It is a solid little laser that burns like a champ, and lights WHITE matches in seconds. And other color matches within a fraction of a second :)
I also took some beamshots! YAY! ;D

Anyways, enough talking. The pics speak for themselves:

Host? mA? What batteries/driver are you using?
Lol, enough questions.
The pictures are nice! The build looks sturdy. Does anyone know why the camera (mine does too) messes up the aperture?

I totally just bought that flashlight recently after seeing it used for a blu ray host and thought it would be awesome to copy that, but I'm enjoying the brightness of the light too much haha. I'm gonna have to order more...

I'm interested in the batteries, is 3 enough voltage for it? (as far as I know blu ray is fine off of 3 aaa's but I thought red's need over 6v...)

other way about BR needs 5-6V red needs 2-3V

I have heard that but I do have a BR that runs off one 10440 3.6V battery. It burns very well too I must say. Kai built it.

It uses a "boost" driver that kicks the voltage up to what is needed.

Peace,

Yea , I run mine off of 2 AAAs that are 2.8V max, using the flexdrive. :P

Nice , compact build dude! :D

Host is the Sku.46 from DX
420mA
3 AAA batteries, and a flexdrive.
Thanks! I think it is because the camera cannot pick up the brightness...

I have built a blu-ray laser in that host also :D
Yes, 3 volts is enough. If you are using a flexdrive, anything from 2.2-5.5 volts will work for both reds and blu-rays. BTW, it is reds that need only 3 volts...

Thanks!!

P.S. Does anybody know if you take beamshots with high ISO, or low ISO?
What ISO setting should i use?

Oh, so this is the "Pocket Pal"..
If it's that hard, I don't think I'll build one of these as my second laser..

Every time I see these threads it makes me want to make one more!!

Wow, I need to make some extra cash for the parts!

It looks nice! Very visible beam to be red!!

It's not that hard. Just don't use thick wire, use wire that's as thin as possible so you can bend them!

This is good advice for most any laser build. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Peace,

Haha, truly, this host is a PAIN IN THE ASS!

Man, everyone is trying to bite jayrobs style. :P
I'm pretty sure i was the first one to build a blu-ray (besides jayrob) and an open can in this host... ::)
