I ordered a P7 and driver from DX, but didn't really have a use for it. That night, my desk lamp fell off the table. In doing so, it shorted itself out thru the bulb casing:

So I thought, why not use the P7 as a desk lamp? :D

After a few tests, it seemed it wouldn't work without some serious heatsinking. I found a nice big heatsink, mounted it on the old lamp stand, installed the driver under the original switch, and mounted the P7 on it.

Now it's a very interesting, and extremely bright desk lamp. Although it is a bit top heavy :P

Don't even need lights in my room anymore :P

:D :D

I love led lighting i can not stand yellow light once i started using leds...

Nice lamp man.

<Things> LOL
<Things> The P7 just burnt right thru electrical tape
<Things> Take that, lasers!

I'm not sure you're on the right forum anymore though!

That's one mighty LED! That P7 consumes 12 watts? Phew! Cool lamp though, very high-tech!

Anyone experimented with the supposedly 10w red LED in those Casio projectors? that must emit some serious photons!

P7s take 3A at about 3.7V depending on bin. I love the light - but I found that my MC-E spread too much to fill a room completely with light - not directional enough - (or I'd be using 4 in my ceiling light) - my bulbs are rated at 2000 hours, but blow at about 500 hours, and only put out 500lm. How have you found the "beam" shape to be?

Yeah, like most power LED's, this thing throws like anything! Even though it's a "desk lamp", half my room gets a lighting :D

Might be able to add a correction optic, but I don't mind it too much, just when you look towards the lamp, you get temp blinded :p

I made a LED desk lamp a while ago. The flashlight I ordered from kaidomain kept killing the four CR123As in it, so I replaced the head of a 12V halogen lamp with the head of the flashlight :P (with a bridge rectifier and capacitor of course)
