Hey guys,

On June 3rd 2014 I will be starting my long voyage which will start in California all the way to see my dad in Paris, France where I should arrive on June 4th 2014. Pretty cool right? That's not all, the best part is that my lasers are coming with & and I will document their journey(as best as I can). Below will be some information along with dates and pictures of the status of my lasers:

June 1st 2014. Packing the lasers batteries in suitcase:

June 3rd 2014. Lasers in Oakland/Passing SFO security:
Well, my lasers passed security without a hitch. I must say I was very amazed at Air Canada during the check-in process when I asked "are batteries allowed on the plane"? They responded with "what kind do you have"? I said "lithium-ion". And they talked to one another and and one member of Air Canada said maybe and she told me yes :wtf:

First picture is of my lasers at my grandpas apartment in Oakland, second picture is of them past security in San Francisco. I also added a picture of Montreal International Airport!!

Don't be so harsh, you can see he honestly takes interest in his lasers. However, it does push the limits of not being necessary.

What is the point of this thread?

Hey Flutter,

I created this thread since I have had some members on LPF request that I create a thread showing my experience of transporting my lasers from the US to France. I thought this could be a fun idea, so I went along and did it! :)

Interesting

Perhaps you only include tips and the useful "raw" information on how to transport them. I don't mean to criticize but there is some unneeded content in this thread.

I understand what you mean Scare. I mainly started this thread(as said before) so people who asked me to create this thread and wanted to know every *detail* would have the full picture of my journey, and not just the important bits. I know some people may find this a waste of time/useless information but they are by no means forced to look at this thread.

indeed. and he put it in the off topic section, so I don't think its all bad. lets see where it goes.

Tha Greenlander can put whatever information he so chooses in his thread. It is not violating any rules, and some people might genuinely have interest in it, so it is within his right to express himself in this manner. From one who joined today, ridiculing another who is an active member is in somewhat poor taste.

@Tha Greenlander: Let me know how airport security and customs checks go, I am interested in how the process will proceed. Especially upon re-entry.

I by no means meant to be offensive nor to "ridicule" tha greenlander. Also, time of membership doesn't always reflect the quality of the member. I've searched these forums for some time now and understand the general workings of the forum.

Quality is by no means dictated by term of membership, however a display of grace or restraint can go a long way to making a lasting first impression that brings with it good will from your fellow members.

We are all having such a jolly picnic here, and just because one person wants to throw a frisbee instead of munch on finger sandwiches doesn't mean you should question him as to why he engages in such behavior. Besides, oftentimes I become bored with a lack of new subject matter in which to delve. Having new topics gives me something to read when nobody is posting.

I apologize for the criticism and I guess I can see how others would find something in this thread. Like Tha Greenlander said, I don't have to view the thread if I don't want to.

Well said wannaburngoldenstuff!

Hey Greenlander,up to the second page already! See it is a popular topic, and seeing as you put it in the "other" section you can start a thread on fairies at the bottom of your garden if you so wish. You are a contributing member of the LPF family so Kudos to you and I will be following your journey to France!

But be very careful with your lasers and the European customs.

Customs of all of the bigger European countries are fully aware of lasers and the respective laws and recommendations. And even the lasers may be legal in France (power etc.) there's still some chance that the stuff gets confiscated (e.g. missing certifcates).

Two years back my brother got some trouble because of two small HeNe tubes and it has cost several hundred Euro to get the missing certificates (laser type, class and CE compliance) and to pay all of the fees.

All the best and have a :-) time.

@busman2 Thank you, really appreciate it :)

@mojo_1234 I think Europe is set on a 1mW class laser law but im not sure. I think the easy part is going to be entering France, the realy challenge will be leaving France and coming back to the states.
