Well i must say you did an outstanding rebuild--also i think I have seen that diode lately at a lower price- I will push AixiZ into getting these as they always seem to offer lower prices ansd super support after the sale--IF enough have interest I may be able to convince AixiZ to allow us to do a GB for a few dozen of these-- so any wanting the same diode Jeff used in this Ti-B build please PM me and I will start a list- price-wise all i can say now is it will be good AND a one-time only GB---- after that you can get them from AixiZ or a member like Jordan (DTR)--
oops!
I may be wrong about getting a super deal on the better 640nm diodes- AFAIK the 640nm is the best all around choice- for beam specs- a factor in what some call 'brightness' being more concentrated makes it apper brighter see these vids - NO tricks done- this is a legit visual comparision--(after all how many in an audience will have a LPM?? duh!)
so.. there's this::
STILL seems to be a lot of confusion at LPF by members (including me) who can't seem to wrap thier heads around how mW and visual appeance(aka'brightness') and beam spec --compare-- example - a PJ maker sez they are upgrading a PJ by swapping the 500mW 650 red for a 300mW 635/638 or 640-- some may say- 'how is THAT an upgrade' (including me at one time) all three wuld make a brighter projector.
before you look at these vids (made BTW by one of the most respected Plex members from the UK- 'Norty33') you tell me-- which is 'brighter'
Laserwave 640nm 350mW (doing ~400mW) and Laserwave 1 watt 650nm (doing ~1.1 watt)
400mW Vs 1100mW--- both 'red'
400 X 2.75 _ 1100-- so by the thinking of some the 650nm should be more than 2 X brighter almost 3 X.
btw Laserwave is a good rep for their lab lasers and MANY DIY PJ have these inside them.

apparently this is ALSO due to the better beam specs of the 640nm red diodes-- this is a comment left at YTube buy a viewer:
Question:
So...the 350 is almost as bright as the 1 watt? or is that just the camera playing tricks?
from --Subsonic Systems-- (I think that is Norty's Youtube name-)
"No camera tricks, the 640 is about the same as the 650. Its partly because of the difference in wavelength, but also a good chunk because of the better beam specs of the 640 - meaning the power density is greater. I wouldn't use anything other than 640 at the moment, 635 and 650 have terrible beam specs for matching with 532 and 445/473 and 660 is just too dim to be of use when you get into higher power ratings. You can get away with about equal measures of 532 and 640 for a reasonable balance.."
a search at Greedbay will show you how much the 640 is going for- not yet found any bare diodes just lab style lasers mostly for PJs. very spendy --
The Diode from DTR used by Jeff here is the Opnext 120mW 638nm diode- and i can't say ATM which red I think is the next best after the 640nm.
