The day I got my Opto 100mW, I took it over to my friends edit suite and shined the beam on the carpet and the walls. You know, just general pointing around the room. He was amazed and all that good stuff but about 20 minutes later, he called and said he had gotten so sick "from the green light" that ol' Chuck, up-chucked. I told him it was probably just whatever he ate for lunch.

Well last night, I went to his house to hang out with him and brought the pointer so he could see the beam at night. No problems outside but when we were playing with it inside his living room, he almost instanly started feeling sick again. I passed it off and said it's all in your mind but he said no way and said that it must be some kind of wave length issue that's messing with his eyes. It took almost an hour for his stomach to settle but there were a few close calls where the burps sounded loaded if you catch my drift. Anybody ever hear of stuff like this?
 





Maybe he focussed to much on the beam? Laser lights are on different wavelength then normal lights. Maybe he get dizzy of it.
 
It's to do with the eyes following the movement of the beam spot and is actually related to motion sickness.
 
I have felt something similar when using the wavelengths at the ends of the visible spectrum. Although I have never thrown up or anything, prolongled use of 405nm or 808nm somethimes makes me feel a little queasy. :(
 
Hmm, this is just, wierd...

I don't see how looking at a specific color of light can make anyone throw up lol

Think you are right, probably just what he ate..
 
I have never gotten sick but when I get my 150mW green laser from Optotronics I was pointing it withing 2-4 feet down at the ground and on the walls inside, big mistake, I started hurting behind my eyes and felt a slight headache. Couldn't sleep very well that night. I try not to use it inside anymore without shielding.
 
Epileptic predisposition ?

Some colors and flickering (so also quickly repeated moving) lights can start attacks, too .....
 
I have heard of many people who get headaches or feel dissy when viewing near-ultra violet (usually 405nm) and 808nm lasers, but never ever of someone actually throwing up following it. It is propably a combination of something he ate and the fact that the strong light is giving him a bit of a headache so it seems as if it all comes from that.

It could also be signs of epilepsia, but I don't know too much about that.. only that quickly flashing lights on something like a TV screen can cause an attack.

I have a sensitive equalibrium and things that make me dizzy usual turn my stomach too so I can see where one can lead to another. So he may have gotten dizzy or even a headache from following the dot around the room and then the nausea set in. And let me just say, he wasn't in serious pain or praying to the toilet god. We were just sitting on his couch putting RAM in his laptop and he just felt sick.

Speaking of things that screw with my eyes, Jaseth's avatar gives me a headache and vertigo but I can't stop looking at it.

He could be borderline Epileptic as Himnl9 mentioned.

If that laser in anyway strobes when in use even if the pulse is so fast the human eye can not see it that could trigger the effect.

He should be checked out just to be safe.

I usually get a headache after using any of my lasers for more than a few minutes indoors. Especially my more powerful ones. But I've never gotten sick to my stomach.
