Just bought my first laser. 200mw red laser. It does well poping ballons and burning but noticed a little screw on the board inside my pointer. Just wondering if anyone can offer any insight on use of this.
That would be the pot. It is used to adjust the current (amps) of the laser and is adjusted by turning it left or right with a small philips screwdriver.
It's basically what regulates the current your diode received. Turning it a certain way will make your laser more or less powerful. Like duzy said, don't touch it. Chances are it will kill your laser instantly, or quickly kill it.
My first laser was red too, scary as hell because my eyes are really sensitive to red for some reason.
I'm glad the seller had the sense to tell me not to burn anything up close without a pair of protective eye-wear.
I'm excited:yh: thanks for the replys. I recently ordered from blord one of his lasers. Cant wait to get that one and check it out. Looking for other lasers and found myself wondering how good are these pointers you see that take a key in the end cap. I'm pretty sure this would come from overseas somewhere but should I keep it locale or just focus on well known companies that have good track records.
Key locks are an added safety feature which is always a plus but doesn't necessarily mean you are going to get a better laser (as far as lasing capabilities). Your best bet is to keep doing what you're doing, talk to members to find time tested units that will give you the best bang for your buck... Or I guess
:lasergun: for your $$$
Always wear safety goggles
