The Module is an Aixiz which is fitted into a brass housing. The set screw retains the module in the cooled housing.

Did you make the brass tube heatsink/tec mount yourself?

I'm looking for a way to make good thermal contact with those aixiz cases, not realyl for TEC but just for passive cooling. The best i could think of so far is to get a thick alu heatsink and drill an aixiz-sided hole into it, but this looks much more elegant.

I am done with the Lite On's after this for harvesting. From now on it will be the Pioneer 112D.

It would be interesting to see if that is actually the same LD as they put in the 20x. Try to keep one of the Lite-on 20x going before you get the 18x so you can do a comparison if you can. They are basically the same price.
 
I will see if I can't compare them when I get my meter. Funds are being saved for the GB Blu-Ray at the moment. Who knows, maybe someone will find the specs on the open cans or find a GB on them...that would be interesting...

I have small lathe and milling machine for little stuff like this.  The brass housing which is Arctic 5 glued to the TEC started as a brass plumbing fitting.  The local hardware store tollerates me coming in with calipers and stuff.  The clearance between the Aixiaz module and the machined hole is 0.001" -- I fill the gap with Arctic 5 goo (not Glue) and tighten it in.   That way I can compare different LD's easily.  The PS board has quick connect terminals.

Oh -- I use the LG 20x drives for open can -- That's about all we get here in the "fly over zone"...

Also, the Aixiz module should be chucked up and turned to a smooth diameter. They have bumps as shipped - This also gets down to the "piece of brass" ;D.
 
Ah, i lack the mechanical tools to do anything like that - but its a great solution.

I was actually considering getting some brass pipe that fits around the module, and solder that onto a slab of brass.

Also, i noticed that those modules are just coated brass themselves. Perhaps it would be doable to remove the lens and back, and solder it into a heatsink directly. Ever tried something like that?
