Okay, so first I would like to ask: which would burn better, a PHR-803T Laser running at 110ma, or a 16x dvd burner red laser? This would be my first laser build, and I was going to build a red one, but then decided on bluray. So do I build a bluray the same way as a red?

This is what I'm planning on doing:

-PHR-803T diode

-This driver (110ma): http://rkcstr.nfshost.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=180

-The 4.50$ AxiZ module here: http://mfgcn.com/_wsn/page2.html

-With this collaminating lens: http://stonetek.org/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=77&products_id=219

-And a heatsink made of washers.

I'm not sure about the AxiZ because it's for red lasers. And this would be able to pop balloons, right? Thanks for helping, and for putting up with all my questions.  ;D

a few things...

what host are you using? or is it going in a project box?

also what batteries do you plan on using??

and if you choose the blu ray dont go with with glass lenses it will actually make you lose overall power.

and aixiz modules arent meant for red.. they work for any 5.6mm diode.

also burning power depends on what color of stuff your burning and what kind of stuff.

It's going in an DX sku.79 flashlight that uses 3 AAs. I just want it to be powerful enough to pop colored balloons. Thanks for fast responce.  ;D

I'll just be burning stuff like balloons and matches.

Oh, and will the 4.50 AxiZ work? Or will it require a different sized module?

But no one's answered my question yet... Would a PHR-803T running at 110ma burn as well as a 16x dvd burner laser?? I would really appreciate an answer...

A 16x would most likely burn better. BTW, if you make a blu-ray, do not use the glass optics because they are meant for red and they will reduce the output of your blu-ray.

Yeah, so I've been told. But it still burns, right?

You are asking to compare apples to oranges. They will both burn. The red will burn dark objects well. However, the 405nm will burn black, red, white, green, etc. objects.

So if your goal is only to burn dark objects, the red is better If you want to burn other colors AND fluoresce objects, the 405nm is better.

Peace,

Thanks Dave, now I understand pretty well now. I was going to build the blu ray first anyway, because it can florescence AND burn stuff. :D
