My DIY Spirograph

hey i gotta question...i accidentally bought a 5k ohm potentiometer instead of a 500k one...whats the main difference?

haha thanks rog. yeah i do understand the reversing switch, I just happened to forget to add the rest, I will update that now!  :)
no need to think of any other ways to explain it, i understand now! ;D

ok i updated the picture now, I dont think I left anything out.

Good luck with the build, post lots of pictures ;)

Your slow speed may not be as slow....although the motors I use only need around 1k to get a good range of speeds.

alright, then thats no good. I bought one for no reason because all i have is cpu fans here. And does anyone know what convex double sided mirrors will do when used in the spirograph?

here's some pics of the mirror i was planning on using. The only thing im worried about is which side to use because it is a convex mirror "like a pair of glasses"

Yes, normal 3-12V hobby motors are great. ;)

bobobob121: You'll get a bad divergence no matter what side, so use flat, preferably front surface mirrors. Like harddrives or something.

Meh. Experiment then.
I don't think it's gonna turn out great tho.

The motor looks lawfully big, maybe a little slow too. But it should work.

well i can only really use radio shack..do you know of any motors they sell that would fit these specs?

Something like this:

Or this:

You'll find them in CD/DVD drives, it doesn't need to be a burner.

oo, i have an old cd player from my comp i will have to inspect..how many volts do they usually run on? or does it say it on them?
