Well I couldn't wait for my module to come so I put a diode in my old ebayser module. I was going to make a tape cut and match lite video but thought, why not cut some CD case up. So I did, I would have went all the way to the end but I have no heatsinkage at all.

Ok I have finished it. Here is a pic.

Saweeeet ! Just wait till you get that thing with some proper lenses and such ! :) Very nicely done - how did you construct that without an Aixiz module ? Please share for the rest of the world ! :)

I put it in a module from my old ebay laser. It is just the diode housing with 2 collimating lenses for the diode. I took the last lens out of the module and put a plano convex on top of the module. Thats all.

That looks very nicely done Greenie! Surprisingly small too... What ebayser module did you use? You've definitely grabbed my attention! :D

Ok I made a copper heatsink for it that works great. After 2 minutes it is barely warm to the touch. Before it would be HOT in about 50 secs.

I was going to say "how in the hell?... You have a water-jet machine?"...

Then I realized it was carefully bent sheet copper. Ingenious! :)

Yes!!!!....
You need to show how you modded the flashlight..and how you made then FIT that heatsink!!

What on earth are you using to make it contact the body of the laser???

I would think that there could only be 5 % direct contact there..the rest airgap!!!

But it looks pretty tight to me????

You must have some kind of TIM (Thermal Interface Material I.E. Arctic silver) in there??

Do tell!!!!!!

Are you going totear it apart when your module gets here and re-build it!!

I used some thermal epoxy to connect the heatsink to the module. The gap you see is where the heatsink comes over the edge of the module a tad. I just took a copper sheet and cut a strip from it and bent it into shape. I can run the laser now for about 9 minutes before it starts to get hot. And if it is placed in front of a fan it doesn't get hot.

I would have made a guide on how to mod this flashlight but it is just so simple for the River Rock. The hardest part was getting it apart. I found that a minute or so in boiling water made it much easier. The LED they use looks like a normal led. Desolder that and solder your laser diode on. Thats all.

Here is a pic. This is when I was testing it to make sure it would work.

Are you serious...???

All you did was solder the LD directly where the stock diode came from>>????

WHat is the voltage, supply cutrrent ???

I think you could bend up a bunch of those H/S's and sell them!

I would Love to get one!!

Is the Module you used @ the same outside diameter as an Aixiz Housing??? 11.5MM or so...????

I mean, the head you used looks like it was made for that light!

Exactly what model light was that???

I think I saw them at Target for 29.99....

But then again I've been looking at so many flashlights lately, I could be wrong.

Yes just soldered where the stock LED was.

The module I used is an aixiz. I didn't put the bottom half of the module back on until I tested it to make sure it was going to work.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the head"

I got it at target for $9.99

And thanks everyone, I am glad you like it.

Ok I have gotten a few PMs asking for some readings so I took a few :p

AAA Alkalines: 153ma @ 2.45v

AAA NiMH: 159ma @ 2.36v

AAA Lithiums: 182ma @ 2.84v

Greenie ---

Congrats on your success -- now be careful on how you put it together !!

I had to laugh about the "nude" aixiz module !!!

It's done. That was a pic I took for Rhith when I was testing the diode on the circuitry. I put the rest of the module back on before I finished it though.

And thanks Mike I am glad you like it.

Just to let you folks know this was Kenom's idea before it was mine.

Damn it's fun to "see" people grinning at what they have built. !!

Congrats to you and encouragement to others  ------

Mike

I'm sure Kenom also shares in your accomplishment. Great people here.
