My blu-ray just stopped working

I was using my blu-ray yesterday. It was working fine, but today it won't even shine light.

Check your batteries, 1st Where did you get it ? What host ? If it's a DIY, who made it ? The answers will help us figure out what if anything is wrong rob

Thats what i thought at first so checked my batteries, they are fine. I made the blu-ray and its in a Kai host from dx. I really think its the diode but i can't find anything wrong with it :'(.

Check ALL your wiring EVERYWHERE for a short or disconnection, also your batt. terminals for corrosion or broken contact spring, or wire that came loose Start at the top & go through EVERYTHING

You usually can't "see" anything wrong with a dead diode unless it is giving you LED light.  Here is my "order" for evaluating a dead laser.


c / Battery
c / pull head/module/driver assembly out until the wiring is virtually straight and test again
c / Power wires to the driver for voltage
c / disconnect diode - attach dummy load - test driver for current
c / <<IF driver is bad -- hook diode up to another driver to test diode>>
c / continuity of diode case to module/head

If you have a 100 ohm resistor lying around, hook the laser diode up with a 9v block battery to test.

I know what you experts are thinking, but this is really safe. With the regulation defined as 100/(Vbat-Vf), it will never exceed 50mA or be below 30mA, so it lases and doesn't die.



With this type of regulation, the rule of thumb is, the higher the battery voltage, the higher the resistor should be, and the safer it works.

The thing is i have to evaluate the causes of the problem for this blu-ray because its a side project for a program called IB in school.
