My 1.25A 445nm has survived 30min runtime.

I was playing my 445nm laser last night and after that I put the lenscap back on and left it on the table. Somehow the laser wasn't turned off. After 30min I grab the laser again and it feels very warm but not too hot to hold it in the hands.
I thought "OH NOOOO, another laser went to the scrapyard"
But the lasergods was favoring me. Everything was alright, nothing has taken damage but the lenscap. The 18650 battery, flexdrive and the diode have survived the stress test. It did left an big scatter around the laserdot. After cleaning the diode window and the glasslens, the laser shines happily ever after.

Moral of this story, buy transparant lenscap.

perfect oval imprint on the lenscap :D

WOW. ..

30 minutes of on time on that host is nuts. On my Stainless steel versions of that host i cant even get more then 4 minutes of on time before it starts to get Hot.

You are one lucky Guy. Good start on the New Year. Iam surprised it dint melt the end cap or even damaged the diode. How bad was the 18650 cell drained.?

The battery was a Ultrafire 18650 2400mAh. In this setup the drain from the battery is 2.35A. In one hour the battery should be drain empty, but after 30min the battery was still running at max.

I think the copper heatsink has saved my laser. The laser didn't burned a hole in the lenscap because the focuspoint was set op infinity. But it did heat up enough for an imprint.

Man, these 445nm diodes just keep surprising me with their astonishing durability. That is incredible.

BTW, it might be a good idea to snip that nub off your "dust cap". It will keep it from smudging the lens window. ;)

I know the issue, I used to cut it off but the nudge inside the cap is a fraction bigger than the aperture of the lens. Therefore the nudge will never touch the lens unless you push the cap very hard on the laser.

I have now a GITD green cap but it is a color mismatch. It is from the 3-color pack from DX: green, orange and black but I need red and blue...

The flexdrive v5 was set on 1.25A. The current draw on the 18650 battery is 2.35A.
The flexdrive needs more current to boost the voltage and for the efficiency lost.
