Multiple diodes in a host?

Now I know people have done this before. How hard/expensive is it to have 2-3 M140 diodes in a host and combine them in 1 beam? Is this worth doing or more trouble than its worth?

If you're going to go with a dual diode laser don't waste your money on M140 diodes.
The parts are expensive and the difference between a 9mm diode and a M140 diode will only a small difference is the grand total of a multi diode laser.

Two beams can be combined with a PBS which in my opinion is easy enough to do, 3 diodes will require knife edging (check the beam combining guide in my signature)

I like to see builds outside of the typical diode, driver, lens, host.
Go for it, it's loads of fun.

I have been thinking about alignment/diversion of combined beams... If you put a lens on the combined beam will the beam be corrected properly into 1? IK there will be power loss, but it may be worth it for a better combined beam?

Knife edging stacks beams close to each other.

Using a PBS the beams will actually overlap, if aligned right they will never split.
