Some experimenting with a ps3-diode. I'm using two separate ddl-drivers to power the violet and red laser diode.
They are connected with the same gnd, and are powered with a 9-volt adapter.

The red LD is fed with 26mA and the violet with max 80mA.

The build:

Colour mixing:

Equals purple :D

One weird thing is that the red goes dim when I give the violet allot of current. Why? It doesn't get warm...

Did I see a picture there with both colours focused? I had read that with the blue focused the red is an ugly blob....
Nice pictures by the way.

If I focus the beam so the blu and red have the same size at ~7 meters away, the dot is ~4cm in diameter, and the colours are slightly "off". They overlap but are mostly on top of each other. Also, the blu will have a focal point at ~45cm, and the red won't have any, ever.

I'd say that this is somewhat useful at close range and the girlfriend/wife would love it!

The purple/magenta dot slightly changes colour on different materials too. Kinda neat.

Why does the red look as though it is pulsed in the second and third to last pictures????? :-/

I don't know, it just looks like that. :-/

It looks a little like modehoping but diodes can't do that. :-?

I'm guessing there's some type of lens in front of it that came with the sled... these lenses are meant for really short focal lengths and are partially fresnel, thus the concentric rings.

that looks like an interference pattern. probably due to a reflection off something, like the can.
