I saw the iPad thread and heard everyone talking about how great is was, blah,blah blah.

I think these are as useful ;) and as cool.

They both use a version of a Mendocino Motor which is basically a free floating, self perpetuating engine that operates off solar cells.

The Mova globe appears to be basically a Mendocino that is encased in a globe that rotates.

Indeed, the mova globe thing would look great on my desk, I just found this link on the principle of operation of these things:

But at over $100 for the small ones, I'd rather spend this money on a laser, a tool or a measuring instrument.

The thing is, I think it'd be much cheaper to DIY it. I mean, it's 4 solar panels, some wire and some magnets.
