I just tasted straight MSG. It is now being put in a shaker, along with my Malic Acid shaker, Sucrose Shaker, and Salt&Pepper shaker.

Interesting... can I buy some on the internet? I keep citric acid around, but no other raw chemical flavor enhancers.
The whole controversy is just because some people may have an allergic like reaction to it or a worsening of asthmatic symptoms. But, it's not likely to happen, and likely only if you eat large amounts of it. If you're worried, you can just eat some and wait a few minutes and see if you have any reaction.
Looks like some health-crazy people say it contains carcinogen contaminants and itself is cancer-promoting... however, these people also tend to take liberty with research findings and make far-out conclusions based on them. Not to mention, their obsessive focus on these likely insignificant effects when there are MUCH more potent causes of cancer in everyday life...
In fact, we should all just shut ourselves inside and never go out in the sun again, considering that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer and sunlight is the biggest contributor /rant
