Hey guys, I need to understand a little more about lasers, because I read the sticky up there and it confused me. Lol

I bought a module, the 650nm 3.2VDC 12x30mm 10mW from AixiZ, and I have a diode I'm gonna pry from a 20x DvD Burner. The module comes with a driver, will that driver work well to maximize the power on the DvD diode without frying it too fast?

As far as I know that driver won't work for a 20x DVD burner diode. You will need to build or buy a driver for it.
I built the DDL driver myself. There are detailed instructions on this forum and it works great. There are a couple different drivers available to buy too but someone else would know more about them than I do. Good luck with your build. ;)

Thanks.

Is a driver really needed? I know it's supposed to prevent your diode from getting fried by voltage spikes. But how needed is it really?

Extremely needed! You will almost certainly blow out your diode or at least cause it to die an early death
without one. The driver not only helps prevent voltage spikes it sets a constant operating current for your
diode.

It prevents your diode from getting fried by voltage (and current) spikes. How badly do you want your diode to live? That's how badly you need a driver.

Peace,
dave

Well, if I gonna use a 20x speed DvD writer diode, what kinda of driver do I need?
