I can't see or understand your logical progression of a 5 mW Green into a cheap red into a burning IR.
I think you need to search and read more here.

All he's doing is ripping out the collimation optics and crystal set and adding a lens to focus the IR.. Though he'd get the same 'burning ability' out of a LOC build, and have an actual visible laser heh.

This is more along the lines of the 'KipKay school of laser engineering' would turn out..

But where does the cheap RED dollar store laser come into the picture?
I built an 808 burner that way years ago. I use it to calibrate my IR filters.
I didn't use the cheap red. WAZUP with this? a -rep?

I don't see a cheap red. The first pic is of a cheap green newwish pen. Though honestly the only reason I can tell is because of the green laser line and arrow. It's pretty blurry, but it's not a red.

You use the lens from a red laser and mount it into right above the diode. It is what focuses it enough to burn.

You really don't want to mess with IR lasers unless you have certified (or at least LPM tested) IR laser goggles. You will do a lot of damage to your eyes that you won't even realize until it too late.

I may be new to modding lasers and creating my own but I am certainly not new to lasers. I have IR goggles and many pairs of glasses for all different wavelengths.

You should perhaps edit and explain a little more of what you are
doing in your 1st post...
I can't tell anything from those blurry pictures...
I understood that you modified a Cheap Red laser for some reason...

I'm pretty sure what he did was take a cheap green and removed the crystal and everything else so he had just IR output and then he took the lens off of a cheap red and used that to focus the IR. I do agree though that you need to do a better job explaining what the steps are, maybe add an actual list of items needed. Those pics really don't show what you're talking about but I understand what you're doing.

IMHO it's totally clear it's green laser, and the 'red' word is just a typo.

This was just proof of concept. This wasnt meant to be a tutorial.
