Interesting FYI news
This news is from Popular Science on an apparently brand new technique for creating lasers
Headline:
MIT offshoot develops a new technique to create more powerful direct diode laser systems.

Company is called Terradiode.
They plan on developing anti missile defenses among other military uses.

First lnk is here:

And related article in Xconomy is here:

"a lot of per unit input per unit of output." So 1/(input)/(output) which equals output/input which equals the reciprocal of efficiency?

So they're combining different lasers? We've been doing that for years. I don't understand exactly what they're promoting.

Yeah those articles seem to be heavy in hype and light on information.

I think it's more of a propaganda kind of military move.
How else can you let your enemies know that you have something big and powerful without actually telling them what it is and how it works ?
There are lots of these types of articles in these sorts of magazines. You just gotta read between the lines and see what's implied.

..... using it ..... :eg: :eg: :eg:

(Sorry, can't resist :p :D)

EDIT: from the article -
TeraDiode envisions selling lasers “compact enough to be deployable on a tank or ship,”

Maybe we can let them know that units also smaller than these ones, like MTHEL, as example, already exists, so they don't have to waste some other millions of $ for discover that thing themselves ..... :p

Because if you weren't already afraid of the US military, they correct that with a vague news article about a research project involving a very expensive and inefficient way of blowing things up - something they already do quite well.

I think the editor was presented with a lot of raw laser language and tried his best to interpret it...

Thus resulting in a couple of paragraphs (Barely) telling us something we already know.
