Want to take your soldering to the next level? Tired of crummy, cold solder joints? Just want to buy another nifty tool? ;D

I have seven six Metcal SP-200 soldering station systems for sale. As professional soldering techs know, Metcal is the top-dog when it comes to soldering equipment. I own two Metcal stations myself, and when I got the opportunity to buy this lot, I took it. They are from a company that manufactures electronic sensors which upgraded recently to newer soldering equipment.

I have individually inspected all of the stations, and they are fully functional. They are used, so expect some scratches and miscellaneous wear & tear. Some of the stands have cracks, but it doesn't affect the performance. (detail pic coming soon)

Included will be:

Power Station
Soldering handle/wand
Your choice of one soldering tip (I have a small variety to choose from)
Power cord
Stand
Brand-new sponge – your choice blue, yellow, green, or purple, limited to quantity I have of each

I will get a picture as soon as I can - I'll have to borrow a camera from my roommate.

Price is firm at $110 +$15 continental US shipping (they're kind of heavy, and I have to pay for the box & packing somehow). International folks PM me, and I'll see what I can do.
I accept PayPal. PM me if you're serious about buying one. If you are uncomfortable buying from me through the forum, I can set up a buy-it-now on eBay  (I have 150+ rep) for you for a couple extra $ (eBay fees)

You can’t get a better deal on a used Metcal setup. (you probably can’t even buy the power station alone for this price)

If you want to know why Metcal soldering stations are so special, check out the http://www.metcal.com/ and click on the “Smartheat Video” for an excellent explanation. The detailed info starts at about ¼ of the way in.

This picture is representative of what you will receive (minus the pad attached to the wand cord):

I now have pictures of the systems, but I can't figure out how to get them online - PM me if you want to take a look (or help me figure out how to upload them! ;D)

Re: Metcal Soldering stations for sale

here is an example of one system:

or, at least there would be, if I could figure out how to add my picture...   ::)

That smartheat feature sounds really cool! If I didn't find the hot air station in my current soldering station so useful, I'd probably buy one of these since there is basically no need for a temp controlled iron with one of these.

yep, the heat at the tip is controlled by which type of tip you choose.

Typically, you can use a Metcal tip 100-200 degrees lower than usual because of the design, and if you have more than one it takes about 10 seconds to change a tip.
I find that a lot of people really don't know what they're missing out on when they use a cheapo soldering iron;
you have to leave it on the part too long, which results in the whole part (i.e. a fragile laser diode) overheating before you can melt the solder.

I'll hopefully have a picture of everything tonight (CST) and get a list of the tips I have. The fine point conicals are really nice for de-soldering diodes.

Re: Metcal Soldering stations for sale

yeah the smart heat thing does sound really cool.

I have a cheap temp controlled soldering station now that was around $35... tons better than the $10 radio shack POS. I think my station now is good enough for the simple wire connections that I solder... maybe if I were to get into PCB design and manufacturing I'd want to get a MetCal, but for now I don't need one.

good luck though,
Kendall

thanks!

they're for sale locally as well, so I think they'll go pretty soon.

as a side note, I finally got a 20x red open can going tonight at 399mA, wow, what a burner! :-D

Wow thanks! Never had anyone take a picture of the box before shipping.
Never heard of WOOT! either and wish I never did ;)
Ive been using Wellers and Radio shack irons for 20 years can't wait to test drive this Cadillac ;D

Re: Metcal Soldering stations for sale *PM for pic

ahh, believe me, you won't look back!

I never had success with the iron types, and I tried a Metcal one day, and it was like a lightbulb flicked on or something, it's really wonderful!

Let me know what your impressions are when you get it - I'd like to hear from you!
