Messier 27

Messier 27, or the Dumbbell Nebula (NGC 6853) is a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula, at a distance of about 1,360 light years. This object was the first planetary nebula to be discovered; by Charles Messier in 1764. It is sometimes also referred to as the Apple Core Nebula.

That looks amazing! What was your setup to get this? Telescope or just a telephoto and stacking software? Equatorial mount?

It was tracked on an EQ mount through a telescope, but not with much more magnification than a long telephoto camera lens. I cropped the photo quite a bit. This was 40 lights and 37 darks - 180s each at ISO400. I think there are 25 or so bias frames, but no flats.

910mm?! Woah. What is the FOV? For me to get 910mm lens I would have to sell a kidney or buy a mirror lens.

I think you might be surprised at how much telescope you can get for the money these days… Especially if you buy used.

I also think you might be even more surprised when you realize that bigger is not always better and astrophotography.
