Hi guys, I thought I would share this one with you.
In my job I demonstrate uses for fungi...I can now add to the uses of piptoporus betulinus better known by its common name "Birch bracket fungus" (found on Silver birch). Collect from tree, cut into slices and dry it for a few weeks in an airing cupboard or boiler room.
It is a tinder fungus, when lit it smoulders with a goodly plume of smoke. I spent a while waving my greenie in one hand and my camera in the other and got some promising shots this evening...until my camera ran out of power.
WARNING. Do not try this in your house, the smoke is smelly (but not unpleasant) and soon gets thick! I used it on a piece of sheet metal in my workshop in the garden and soon had a good fug going.
I recommend it as a quick/cheap smoke source for trying out laser setups.
