I am making this thread because I think it is very important to make quality posts. I see at least a few members on here that just post things even though they don't actually contribute anything. These people just like to see that post count number go up. So even if these people have nothing useful to add they will find a way to just say something. I think it is a lot more useful to have quality posts rather than quantity.

If you are one of these people, you don't have to make a post on every thread. If you know a lot about the topic than thats great of course. If not just leave it alone and let someone else chime in.


These are just my thoughts. Feel free to let me know what you think.



Quick side note, when people blame bad grammar or a bad post they made `because they are on their phone`. I don't see that as an excuse. Sure it may take a little longer to post from your phone but that's about all.

Another thing that seems to be happening is a few people sitting in a thread replying to each other over and over again; the thread quickly derails and no further useful discussion happens.

Post count inflation isn't really productive for the participants or the people who have to dig through pages of nothing to find information.

Good post I was thinking the same thing .There are a few as you said but one in particular who has posted nearly 250 in 6 days ,mostly wow ,that's awesome ,I wish I had one of those ,great pictures etc basically spam.We all do it occasionally but there is crossing the line.As to the phone typos etc well that happens to I've been guilty of that and have made a big effort to reduce the mistakes.You need to look and the very bottom line of your post for two buts in a row so it does happen . +1 rep

I believe I know who you are talking about with the 200+ posts in under a week. Post count doesn't mean anything if you are just spamming.

Massive amounts of posts often deter me from getting anywhere near a thread, and I've seen threads that have been up for at most 3 hours with 20+ posts, a lot just jokes back and forth between people. Half of the time I'm not even sure if the OP had his question answered or not.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all up for coming up with a witty way to teach something, but there is the 'other' section specifically made for regular discussion.

Plus there's a lot of parrot talk these days.

Edit: I agree on grammar too. Easily half of my posts are from my phone. I highly doubt people can actually pick out which ones are from it.

It's amazing what line breaks and punctuation can do for a post, my friend. Putting spaces before commas and your post being one big wall of text makes you look like a rambling Chinese spammer, not a contributing member. If you want people to read and appreciate what you say, it needs to not be difficult or downright painful to read.

Without line breaks, your post is difficult to read. Coupling that with the general lack of punctuation in your posts, I increasingly don't look at your posts because they have to be deciphered - not read.

The point really is to just make better quality posts in general. If you don't have a comma where is should be, or have a run on sentence that's obviously not a big deal. It's posts that contribute nothing to the situation which is the problem.

I agree with this, I have seen a dip in the quality of posts recently. At least we don't have people spamming copy & pasted messages anymore.
 
Holy crap you're right. We don't have anyone spamming copy and paste messages to the welcome section anymore when new members make threads.

...and people are still being greeted by others, without having signature spam shoved down their throats as soon as they enter the fourm. :D
 
Nicely put, Often one line per post or a couple of words are simply annoying and add to the length. I enjoy reading the forum more than posting randomly I tried both actually but I couldnt get past 900 post this year, and just about the same last year. Maybe someone has a different concept than me but from where I see is they are actually "communicating" through their posts while majority is "sharing" what they find relevant to their knowledge base,

We mostly see new and younger age group members (no offense to anyone) in such situations maybe it's the generation thing, One simply cannot tell a member to post less frequent.
 
I have a couple of derailing posts but I think we all do. Ill try to not do that anymore. Good post.
