Making a spirograph, help with wiring

So I've been toying with the idea of making my own 3 motor spirograph.

I plan on using these parts:
Motors (x3): 1.5-3VDC Metal Gear Motor - RadioShack.com

Potentiometers (x2): Panel Bushing Mount - Pots with Shaft, Single Turn - 0 to 299 Ohm ((RWV) 100R-.375)

This is where I'm a bit confused. These are the switches i want to use to change the direction of the motors.
DPDT switches (x3): DPDT Heavy-Duty Slide Switch - RadioShack.com
These say they're reated at 3A at 125VAC. Will they work with my set up?

Also, I'm not sure how to wire all of these things. I think I'm supposed to wire the switch to the potentiometer to the motor in series, and each one of those to the battery in parallel, right? But the switch has six posts, and the potentiometer has three, and I'm not sure where the wires all go.

Thanks for any and all help!

Hello and welcome to the LPF!

I think I'm supposed to wire the switch to the potentiometer to the motor in series, and each one of those to the battery in parallel, right?
That sounds about right to me.

But the switch has six posts, and the potentiometer has three, and I'm not sure where the wires all go.
Here's something that might help you understand Double Pole Double Throw switches.
DPDT - Google Search
This one in particular:

Also this wikipedia page might be useful, just scroll down to where it starts talking
about the several types of switches.
Switch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maybe this will help you understand how the 3 pins on the potentiometer
are connected.

Conclusion: use the middle pin and (any)ONE of the outer pins.

Always remember: Google is your friend! :)
