i have a magicspin 8x dvd burner, i was wondering if the diode inside will be any good?

your guess is as good as any. only way is to open it up and see. with a 8x drive your not going to see a whole lot of power. about 100mw or so.

I harvested one from a 4X NEC burner and it was a pretty good burner. Do not go over 150 mA though with out proper cooling.
