Here's a better option than the BR (IMHO) - this is one of the nicer sights being imported right now, it has externally adjustable X and Y axis for sighting in as well as a set of locks to hold the diode in place once sighted in, it's weatherproof, 35mW 535nm green, puts about a 2.2cm dot "on target" at 60yds, and is daylight visible to right about 60yds in sunlight, more in dusk or overcast (obviously). The mount is designed to absorb recoil to keep from going out of sight, and the actual "gun-mount" is designed for a standard "weaver" or "Pickatinny" mount (which if I recall, should be fine clamped upside-down on a 17 or 19).
This model is the JBS-016 (manufacturer unknown) - I was ordering these for awhile through tactical gear depot (until they got squirrelly with US shipment) but haven't seen this model on their site in awhile (they have a model L-16 which looks similar but has a few small differences cosmetically which makes me think they switched suppliers, plus the new ones are around $60 while these were $96)... You might be able to hunt one down (no pun intended) on the web, though...
As to refitting the host, the trouble is that the end of the module that houses the lens is designed with a narrow barrel (the module is standard 12mm but shoulders down to 8mm at the lens) to be able to slide into the X/Y axis adjusting rings ... seriously not worth even TRYING to engineer around.
I have 2 left and might be convinced to part with one (I too have been looking for a new sight supplier and was going to go back to TGD until I was emailed with a refusal of my last attempt at ordering because I was in the US) - If you want more detailed pix PM me and we could go from there. The kit includes laser sight, mount, tailcap switch, remote (handgrip or stock) pressure switch, (1) CR123 battery, velcro to mount the pressure switch, and allen wrenches for disassembly and locking.
