as i'm moving i've been going thru stuff as usual. lit up an old red tube. beautiful!. i have a nice naked green tube i bought from dave a long time back. it needed a ballast resistor at both ends. the + one i have and it's 10k ohms.
the one for the - end i can't find. any idea what value i need. i'd love to light this one up.

Small He-Ne tubes take anywhere from 20K to 60K
ballast resistors depending on the power Supply.
You don't needs Ballast resistors at each end.
The positive end will do.

hey jerry, i found a resistor that worked. dave told me this old tube needed one at both ends. i did have my polarity mixed tho. cathode got the 10k, i found a 75k for the anode.
it lases now. so i get to quit playing and get packing.

I love my gas lasers too. I got a few of them to make holograms with, but haven't been able to get my optical bench set up to get back started doing them again. Are you moving?

YOUCH! Enjoy the heat, humidity, and mosquitoes. I lived in New Orleans back in 1970. It was a very colorful city back then, but soooo hot. Enormous cock roaches and those pesky mosquitoes. Great food and always something to do. I saw Led Zeppelin there in January 1971. Had my elbows on the stage. Couldn't get any closer than that.
