Hi All,

I currently have a nice 2W module on my CNC that is serving me well. I'm considering upgrading this to a higher power so I can engrave / cut more things.

My Z-axis can not support a large module because the spindle motor and 3D printing head already take up a lot of room. Anything up ~150mm long is fine (other dimensions should be fine).

10 minutes of searching came up with this:
3.2W 808nm Infrared laser module diode /focusable/CNC [OL-810-3.2] - $375.00 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

I'd prefer to get something over 5W. My wife might shoot me (not with the laser) if I spend too much.

It's probably worth mentioning that I'm in Australia.

Any suggestions on stores I should check out?

TIA

$375 for that is way to much IMO. Plus the beam from that guy will be huge.

You can find FAP's on ebay for around $200. You can usually get them in around 20-60W of power, that's enough of an upgrade to make a significant difference ;)
Keep in mind you'll be spending a ton on a PS for these guys as well. They need constant current in the 20-60A range.

I have a few contacts and could probably arrange a reasonably priced 60A PS.
Only problem is that I have no experience with FAP lasers.
Would I still couple an optic fiber to the unit?
How do I (do I need to) collimate the beam?
