I put an IR Laser from CD Burner on my CNC.

I used DDL to drive the diode.

Videos: U-tube

DVD Diode (R.I.P) watch?v=wvRYPyCEHqE

Questions? :D

how long a diode can be turned on without heatsink?
This diode stay warm after 1 minute, it´s normal?

Lots of great mechanical noises. What power/current are you running the diode at, and what CNC is it?

drlava, I did this CNC on my vacation using Step motor from NIMA old printers and othes stuffs.
Normaly I use with a dremel (similar) to milling acrylics.
There ar others videos in my Youtube Channel.. take a look.

The diode runs at +/- 105 mA.

The power output of diode laser (no matter the color) is P=I*V as some ppl says ?
I don´t belive because there is some heat loss. Right?

This is amazing. You built your own CNC and decided to adapt this tech to make it do engraving. You sir, are a true "maker." As we say. My question is, where did you find the plans and software to drive your CNC? I would like as much material on this as possible.

Regards,
Rich

I'm also in to CNC-building and everything you'll ever want to know about hardware, software and construction can be found at www.cnczone.com
There is even a special subforum for laser engravers and cutters!

I know this CNCZONE forum. Really great.
gn0stik, there will be much more happy than my explanations :D

The software is KCAM, w3.kellyware.com.

Fred, Did you buy the frame (XY table), or make it? I would like one of that quality, but unfortunately I do not have a welder, (or metal cutting band saw) so I would have to buy one (unless someone would allow me to pay them to build me one), I already have step motors that I could use from some old okidata dot matrix printers. I could have a table welded up locally if someone could direct me to some plans for one.

Thanks.

gn0stik: Sorry to answer you late. I saw this same question in CNCForum.
Well, this frame was done by a friend and i painted with a simple spray. nothig special.
Is true that have a good look. It´s a 20x20mm square 'metalon'

I asked to guy to do a 30x30 cm square with a 7cm of 'legs' and 25 cm to up from the square as you can see below:

Fred.
