Yea... what Chip said:

With a 12x diode (405nm) you can achieve the best results in burning at dinstance compared to the price.
Of course a 1W Green with a beam expander x10 will do better but price is a lot higher.
Im able to burn with my 405 Laser at about 5 meters away. It has got very good divergence that means I could pop a ballon even at 10 meters away (didn't try it yet ^^)

My 400mW, 405nm focusable laser burns a match 9 meters distance away with no problem. It may burn even further, but my apartment isn't long enough to try it.

What kind of lens are you using? And what can I use to go even further up to 30 meters?

Thanks,

150 feet is out of the afforadable hobby realm. it is possible but we are talking into the thousands of dollars.

Why Michael?
I think, but correct me, that all we need is a suitable lens (beam expander?) to focus the beam at that distance. I don't think tha 30 meters of air will absorb to much mW of power.

With my RPL-450 (unfortunately now no more :( ) and a 10x beam expander I could pop balloons at 15-20 m...

i've never used a beam expander. but my understanding of them is this...

they reduce diverence. you'll gain some burning feet vs just focused to infinity. the only laser i have seen ignite a match at over 80 feet was a green lab dpss that was over a watt.

but to take a 1 or 2 watt 445nm laser that has bad beam profile and add an expander, i doubt it will let you burn at 150ft. i had a 1.1watt 445 with aixiz 405 lens that could not pop ballons at 20 feet. so i know beam expander would not have given me that and an additional 130.

but remember i am not saying it cant be done... i have been here for 3 years and have never seen it done affordably, or diy.

I think that a laser of 350-400 mW, 532 nm or 405 which already start with a good divergence, equipped with a 10x beam expander should be fine

I have this laser. It's labeled 400mW, but the actual output is 350 - 380mW. I don't know what kind of lens is has. It burns with the lens that it came with, well focused. No beam expander or other accessories (just a tripod).

My 405nm 12x at Apprx. 800mW would pop a Ballon at around 30' while my 1.8W 445nm would not. They were about even in burning ability at around 5' but I'd say that the 445nm had an advantage at close range.
