Lighting matches with focused to infiinity 8x?

The OP said nothing about distance. He (or she) asked if an 8x can light a match focused at infinity. I set my 8x on the table and the "dot" focused over 40 feet away. I then placed a wood red-tipped match 6 inches in front of the 8x and it instantly burst into flames. No focus was needed AT ALL.

HeShe is the correct term for Ian. Or is it Shim..(she..him)? :shhh:

I used to say 'leave the burning for the open can reds'.

You can light a black tipped match at 20' with a 245mW red properly focused.

Speaking about focus, you would also need to define 'focused to infinity', because whatever the divergence is, it continues at distance. So maybe better to say 'focused at 40 feet', or something like that.

Anyway... now that I have an 8X with a 405-G-1 glass lens, I no longer consider the reds to be the best burners! (not by a long shot)

As anybody that has tried an 8X will tell you, they will burn so good, that you will burn your fingers focusing! Not just a little, but it hurts!

You can't even focus on white paper without instant smoke... And mine is only at 375mW's!
