I recently ordered some bismuth through the elements GB, and put it to use now...

Its pretty funny to set up... i'll get some cube magnets, they give better visual effect because you can see them spin better. You'll need at least a pound of bismuth to make a set of suitable discs though, the stuff is pretty dense.

Hehe.. its very subtle indeed, but there IS a gap both under and over the stack of little magnets, and the setup is stable. I need a bigger pulling magnet at greater distance to allow a bigger gap between the plates.

Loudspeaker magnets seem good for this, but i dont have any laying around. Currently the pulling magnet is about 15 pieces of 20x2 mm neodymimium disc magnets in a stack, ordered from DX.
