Let`s light a cigarette with a laser in the stupidest way possible...

I've done that.* :tinfoil:

*While wearing OD 5 goggles.

And with the cigarette not in my mouth.

I wonder if this guys are aware of the risk they are exposed to.

And this are laser retailers, they should be educating their buyers to use safety gear. I can`t even imagine what their buyers to with this lasers...

Should always hold the laser to the side or above when lighting them, wouldn't wanna get any blimmers on the lens.

It's been proven several times with people screwing up there vision that this is not a good idea

Yep except the angle kipkay used was much worse if memory serves me. I have ran out of lighters and and lasers and used them as a primary source of ignition for a few days at a time, taking precautions of course. You could close your eyes but you will just put a hole in you smoke :P, goggles are more than advised, I get a headache at that range even wearing decent goggles. Then again smoking is going to give me cancer so the laser is not all that bad in the right context. Lung cancer vs macular degeneration? Or it just goes to show that we are self destructive at our core, or at least at a cellular level. Hell even down to our atomic level.

Im not trying to be stupid, but how else would you light one? Wouldn't the cig extinguish by the time you got it to your mouth if you just held it over it?

Hmm I bet at around 4w you could flash ignite the cigarette, I light them on stoves sometimes and my face is not puffing on it when this happens, I do not like 100W of IR on my face from 6" :P The hotter your element the longer you have to puff to keep it going, so with at some point the laser will have the pure wattage to do the trick, and you may not want to light it while puffing on if it does, IR from a heating element is harsh, but 445nm at 4w one slip and you will burn a nice hole or line on your forehead.

Wow I love the color but I do not think I could even afford the electricity to power one more than a few minutes a month. :P Yes something like that could flash ignite a normal smoke. Though that's one hell of an expensive lighter. It takes me about twice as long to properly light a ring size 5 cigar with butane. Used to indulge in Opus X, and had a source of  Cuban Monty Cristos back in the gap, my weakness. Now I can barley afford pall mall :P 488nm if I am not mistaken?, that would be the bees knees.
