no, it isnt always turned to fully tight. its hard to do and normally is done at night or with fog so you can see the beam. turn the ring until the beam is as tight as possible and not "cone" shaped

illumination supply is the place to get inexpensive nitecore chargers. they are smart chargers and will never over charge your batteries. work on everything from AAA-22600 and everything in between. literally the only charger i use in my house

Ok cool. We have a store here called batteries+ so maybe they'll carry a good charger. I'm gonna try to focus the beam and see if it will burn

yeah ive got those near me as well and afaik they dont stock 18650 batteries other than ones in laptop packs but ive never specifically went in there looking for 18650 batteries. online they dont show them other than laptop packs so finding a charger there might be hard but good luck

Ah ok. Ill just get one from the site you specified. Any extra tips on focusing this laser? Just try to make it thr smallest possible dot and not a sphere/cone?

you want the dot to be as small as possible but its hard to focus when using safety glasses since it blocks a bunch of the light. best advice is to do it at night so you can have a chance of seeing the beam in the night sky. make the beam a tight thin line and you will be good to go

This is unfocused by an external lens:

This is perfectly focused:

Gotcha. I got it to burn paper! But it seems like the dot shows up bigger on the wall now but I'm also at work lol so ill play with it tonight at home

based on what you said above it sounds like you have it focused to a certain distance in front of the laser (most likely a few inches) but focused to infinity means that the small dot is focused so far out (infinity) that the whole beam is nice and tight.

Ohhhh. That clears everything up for me. So it can only be focused on either a close up distance or a far away distance. Cant get best of both worlds. I gotcha. Thanks man

no, when focused to infinity it will still have a small dot up close. its hard to explain unless you have done it before. where you have it focused now is VERY close to infinity, there is only like 1/2 (if that) between focused 4 inches from laser to infinity. it takes some time and patience to get it perfectly at infinity but once there, you will never need to focus it again. infinity is what most, if not all, members try to focus their lasers at for burning and general use. you must be careful when focused to infinity since it will burn things you dont mean to if the beam passes over them (burnt my window sill in the pictures above when using my 445nm)

Haha. Nice. I'm gonna play with it at home in the dark and see if I can get it to infinity. Is there any write ups or anything?
