I am looking to buy a 5mw green laser pointer mostly for messing about with different transparent objects (shining one through a diamond is mesmerizing). I don't know a damn thing about lasers other than the fact that green ones are the most visible and you shouldn't point them at eyes or vehicles.

I really like the lasershop.ca offer of a 5mw green pointer and the (sold separately, naturally) diffraction lenses that fit it, as they turn the beam into fancy patterns.

I'd like to know if lasershop.ca is worth purchasing from, and if not, where can I get a similar product instead. I do live in Canada, so their advertised free shipping is quite nice. For some reason, I haven't found a single post mentioning them in a negative OR positive way.

Another thing that is important for me is the laser's casing (host, I believe?), as I am very tired of the fake aluminium/plastic dollar store thingies that you can snap with your fingers and who's battery compartment's cap has worn off after opening it once and now slides freely, requiring tape to hold it in place. I like Wicked Lasers' casings more, but from what I read they're not a company I want to buy from.

My price range is max a hundred CND, though slightly overextending (for those lenses, perhaps) is fine.

Thanks :D

Would you have a link to the shop? I tried to search for them and I came up with a laser cutting shop.

You might want to make a post in "welcome" section and introduce yourself? :)

Please make a Welcome thread in the Welcome sub-forum if you expect help or advice and include your location in your profile

The prices at lasershop.ca are silly absurd high-they want $39.99 for a green pen with star cap--you can get the same pen on eBay for $3.61 with 5 different star caps see: https://www.ebay.com/itm/6-in-1-Powerful-5mw-532nm-Green-Laser-Pointer-Star-Light-Pen-with-5-Caps-Nimble/162730447075?epid=1900410980&hash=item25e37d90e3:g:2kQAAOSwke9Z9tcz

They want $100 for a set of three 1 each red green and blue---you can get a set of 3 each with 5 star caps for $10.99 on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3PCS-6in1-Red-Green-Blue-Violet-Laser-Pointer-Pen-1mw-Visible-Beam-Star-Caps/152692980340?hash=item238d35fa74:g:l5cAAOSwXrdaA6Gc

To be fair, you're going to be paying those sorts of high prices for something that's truly 5mW anywhere you go.

Can't trust cheap eBay lasers to be <=5mW.

Maybe if you find "true" "metered" 5 mW however if you actually look at the lasershop.ca web site --nowhere do they say true 5mW and you can see from other common stuff the sell their prices are full of donkey dust. They are no different than the low cost eBay pens--can't trust them either on the 5mW score. Literally everything they sell is the same Chinese garbageola as elsewhere at 4X the price or more

How about a 5mW red AixiZ module w. cross lens for $99.99 LOL Is that a joke or what? Laser Pointers | FREE Shipping! Canada
Same ffom USA source $2.99 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Focusable-5mW-650nm-Red-Cross-Line-Laser-Module-Focus-Adjustable-laser-Head/162542611376?hash=item25d84b6bb0:g:tdQAAOSwGJlZJbBQ

Have a look at lasershop.ca's Blue Laser Tabletop 1500W - 2000mW for $399 ---- what is the price in the real world $50-$80 maybe ?

If he wants a good quality metered output pen he can get a 4.99mW here for $29.95US $38.35 Canadian https://www.optotronics.com/proddetail.php?prod=Opto5

Yup, agreed, definitely go with Optotronics, or if looking for a Canadian source go with LaserGlow.
