Lasers and broken camera sensors.

Hello guys,
i was just sitting in my chair and thinking about doing something positive again and suddenly a thought came up, what would happen if you hold a powerful laser beam into a surveillance camera? Wouldnt the sensor die instanly?that would be a great way to sabotage the upcoming surveillance state...^^ nah im not gonna do it, at least not in near future, but im curious if they have any protection against that scenario.

I tried this with an old GoPro, it basically just burns spots into the sensor, so then you have black spots in your image. This was with a 1W(ish) 445nm. I would assume that the lens on the camera would affect this.
