laserglow's Herc & X10DR at work 147 foot distance

Re: laserglow's Herc & X10DR at work 147 foot dist

why green if IR is so much cheaper?

Cause you can't focus IR to a fine spot 10 feet away ::)

Yes you can. This misconception comes about from the fact that greenie lenses don't focus IR too well.

This is only because they focus green that is already fairly collimated from the crystals. The nm difference does not make that much of a difference to the effectiveness of the lens, it's just a weak lens.

If you think about it you need TWO large angles in a prism to make a noticable spectrum, and even so it's small. That shows how little the effectiveness of a lens is to different wavelengths.

The only reason you may not be able to focus the IR is if you had a large diode it would likely be multimode and have either crap divergence or diameter. :P

Re: laserglow's Herc & X10DR at work 147 foot dist

Yea that's what I meant.A 1W diode would most likely be a multimode diode. And the 10ft figure was just an exageration,of course you can, since a herc can be focused at 147ft ::) But the point was you're gonna have better succes with a 1W DPSS green :P

My 1.7 watt S-KY portable focuses to a burning point of about 4mm at 10' and thats a big multi mode diode.
unfortunatly the X10DR is AR coated for green and only passes about 3% IR acording to LaserGlow

Re: laserglow's Herc & X10DR at work 147 foot dist

Do you think the x10dr would fit on an RPL? How about on a Crossfire/hulk ultra?

Re: laserglow's Herc & X10DR at work 147 foot dist

The X10DR fits on S-KY lasers, so if the RPL/Crossfire/Hulk are about the same size, you could probably work something up to make it fit.

Re: laserglow's Herc & X10DR at work 147 foot dist

It should definetly fit on a Hulk/Crossfire since it's the same unit as the Aries.Don't know about the RPL and the Hulk-ultra.

Re: laserglow's Herc & X10DR at work 147 foot dist

The crossfire is not the same as the Aries and Hulk. The Aries and Hulk are slightly different and run on C batteries. The crossfire is the same as the hulk ultra and it runs on a rechargeable cell (the 1850 something something).

I have often wondered why CNI doesn't sell the PGL-III C (the model with the rechargeable batts).

18650 Li-Ion 3.7V 2200mAh, same batteries the Spartan uses.

And RPL.Yea, the old 1850 something something is a good cell ;D

Thx for the correction by the way ;)

Any time. I'm nothing if not pedantic.

I can't believe nobody's commented on the name of the X10DR, yet.

X10-DR, ex-ten-der. It extends the range of the laser by X10. That's so clever.

Justin specified that in his post anouncing the new accesories and the LaserGlow Guiness Book entry :P.

I knew as soon as I posted that, it would be revealed that someone had, in fact, commented on it long before I noticed it.
