Well,

It looks like LaserGlow is offering a new Electra model, the "Electra-2" for $199. Output power is 0.9-1.9mW. I don't think you'd see much of anything at those levels, no?

Just a fun find. :)

Is this a direct diode laser? Seems very expensive if it is. Who would want one? I doubt you'd be able to see it at all.

Neat find Hap, though the last thing I would dump 200$ on is 2mW of 405nm. :undecided:

Yep, it is a very nice looking pen, Alex, just like all the Laserglow products, but I couldn't justify $200 for a pen that would require a dark room and a black piece of paper just to see the dot. ;)

Ha! 200$ for that much 405nm!!! A dot from a purple highlighter would be brighter!!

It is LaserGlow afterall. All of their stuff is expensive, even when compared to the same products from other vendors. However, we are not their target market. Their target market can and will pay the premium to deal with them.

Who do you suppose is their target for a 1 mW 405nm laser pen for $200.00? It couldn't be the scientific community. Who did they have in mind when they put this together and decided it was worth that much money?

Thats what I've been wondering also, Paul; I can't imagine the scientific community having a use for anything like this, especially in a pointer form.
It's way too weak for any kind of presentation use, and there are much cheaper and better ways to check for fluorescence.
About the only target I can think of, is someone wanting one of everything that is "Laserglow" .
It might be interesting to see how long this model stays in their line-up.

Man, who the hell is rich and or stupid enough to pay $200 for 2mw of 405nm? I could see it going for $60 based on the nice laserglow host, but the $200 is just absurd.

Hi,
Maybe just maybe it can be modded to take a BDR 209 16X . If you take out the diode module hey at 2mW's who cares about it and put it in the parts bin.Bad Boy Billy took apart one i think so why not use the host then you will have a Laserglow 405 X16 and make your own heat sink and focus knob.

At any rate, I don't see these flying of the shelf. At $200.00 a pop, it would be an expensive pen host for another build.

Hi Paul,
I would still crap the 405 2mW if i dropped 200.00 on a pen like that but in reality i wouldn't spend that for that. But on the other hand well a 505 or a 480 would be an improvement thats if no one buys it.

Rich:)
