I have seen that video, a penny is like 1mm thick, I am sure any car part is far thicker than that and also has a lot more surface area to heat up.
Also his point was to heat up what I would assume to be a large area of the thing so he could pull it out or whatever, not melt a hole in it.
Also I have not heard of that stuff, it sounds pretty neat though.
I think a laser would be the wrong tool for the job in any case even if it could be made to work.
