got this laser a week ago. mfg date 1982 HeNe red 6.5 milliwatt

That's pretty sweet. What wavelength is it? And what are the lasers you're comparing it to?

I dont know the wavelength, but the lasers im comparing to are nova laser (green) 65mw and the small red one is a cheapo from frys electronics.

Really? Never expected that from the picture, the HeNe seems almost as bright as the green laser, but that must be the camera playing tricks then.

Wavelength for HeNe reds is (almost) always 633 nm, a 532 green should be about 3 times as bright to the eye at equal power.

Yeah, it seemed odd that the HeNe looked as bright as the green. Must be the camera.
It's neat to see a working red... I break all of my cheapo red lasers ;D.

yea its prolly the camera or the fact that the pic was taken at night with a slow flash. But the green is the brightest one. Im just stoked that i got that HeNe laser thats 26 years old to work. yay for using my brain. and maybe some luck

It's a gem if you ask me, especially since it (still) puts out a reasonable amount of power. Most of the old 'demonstration' HeNe were only 1 mW. I bet that in terms of divergence it's better than both comparison lasers.
