Laser product idea?

WARNING - Light Speed Sarcasam

Would it be possible to put some kind of pin wheel or small wind mill type generator type thingie that when the smoker exhaled after lighting their smoke it could somehow recharge some of the batteries?

How was that being rude?
There are alot of kiss-asses on this website?

Did I hurt your feelings, little boy?
Aww, poor baby...

Actually no, you didn't but it felt like everything was an attack last week, mainly because I'm getting a lot of hate PMs since Frosty claimed he was leaving because of a post of mine. I think he was just using that as an excuse and was leaving anyway over the forum change over, but people went off on me last week so it felt like just a continuation of that and I was getting tired of it.

Sorry if I took it the wrong way.

I think most folks would be happy at first with just rechargeable batteries in this. Perhaps a recharging station where the lighter could be plugged in when not in use would be possible, then no batteries would need to be removed for their recharge? We have them for cellphones, wallphones, and other devices so it is feasible.

I guess you are right...but you got to admit, a pin wheel on a laser lighter would be pretty cool!

That got a chuckle thinking about it, a child's colorful pinwheel attached a laser lighter. Thanks, I needed that this morning. :)

Hey Pat... since you brough it up....

How about a Solar panel that you wear on your head... you know... like the umbrella hats...
just take off the umbrella and replace it with a solar panel (you still get shade and energy too).

That would recharge the lighter's batteries while you're outside or under some lights..

You could even attach a pinwheel to the hat... this way you get extra
free energy as you walk
around or sit in a strong wind...

Ok, I officially need to stop reading this thread today or I'm going to get yelled at for laughing too loudly at work. Just the mental image is comedy gold. Thank you Jerry.

Jerry, excellent Idea! Instead of thinking outside the box...you are thinking outside the box in a case of other boxes on a pallet on a cargo ship full of containers full of pallets in the middle of the atlantic coming from china. We will work this thing out!

I'm sure you could make a simple recharger that is based on solar technology, the problem is it would either take a LONG time to recharge the batteries, or it would be so big to not be feasible with today's commercially available solar panels.

I think a normal wall charger would be fine to start out with. Use rechargeable batteries and a wall charger so you don't have to take the batteries out to recharge them. 4 hour charge or so and the lighter is fully charged and ready to go.

Perhaps a good idea would be a couple safety features.

Follow me if you will...

First, we have an open gap where the laser beam will be used to light the smoking item in question. The problem I see is that if someone drops this in their purse or pant pocket, there is the risk of some accidental pressing of the ignition button, then we have a high-power laser activated in a pocket/purse. No good can come of that.

So perhaps a guard that snaps down over the gap that must be swung away before use of the laser?

Another feature would be a child lock or some kind of lock on the button to prevent unwanted ignitions.

Follow You???? IM RIGHT ON YOUR ASS BUDDY!!!

Those are easy quick fixes, you are making this waaaaay to complicated. You have to wear the key for the keys switch interlock on a little silver chain around your neck. Kind of like the chain your grandmother uses to hold up her glasses, i mean it is real close to your mouth when it comes time to light your smoke of choice.

A very simple thumb scan reader or eye mapping software interface would prevent the child from operating it. Or better yet...make it so that your big toe on your left foot is the only "print" that can activate the software allowing it to turn on.

Since this isn't going to be commercially viable anytime soon. Let us think even further outside of the box. Why do we need batteries in it at all? In the following pic, it is of a portable power supply with 4 9v batts with a 3.5mm head phone jack. I use it at work for the digital displays on circuit breakers. yeah its bulky but its just another option. Also it would act a safety measure, so not just anybody could use the lighter. :)

excellent...conveniently snaps to the pinwheel, solar umbrella hat! Thanks!

ROFL buddy!!!! one more tiny weenie idea. could we make an attachment for a little mirror so it could be used as a "spot tanner"?

DUDE, You must be in charge of product diversity or the multiple applications lab where you work. Now you have me thinking outside the box....Hint- can anyone say...Tattoo Removal!

Oy vey iz mir!

Okay, okay, okay. I get it: if you're going to reinvent the wheel, you may as well go balls-to-the-wall. But it seems to be skirting the border between friendly ribbing and mean-spirited sarcasm.

I just think it's a keen idea becuse the first question I get when I show one of my lasers to a friend/associate is: "Can you light a cigarette with it?"

So, I say, if you have an idea that fascinates you, go for it! While some of us may endeavour toward hobbies that will benifit humanity as a whole, most of us don't see canonization in our futures. Save the productive stuff for 9-5. Otherwise, have fun.

That being said, bschott, you do make a valid personal safety point vis-a-vis the activator switch (yeah, it would really suck for a laser to gooff in one's pocket/purse and burn clothing/posessions/skin), but it's something that can be easily overcome with a small cover for the button.

Aside: I don't know if it's just oveflow annoyance from the move, but I've noticed that there's been a lot more animosity on this forum lately. To quote War: "Why can't we be friends?"
