Laser Lava Lamp Needa Make Some Holes

Ok this is an ongoing project no i have set up the fan inside the base of it but of course it will be useless without some holes for circulation. Just wandering if there supposed to be above the fan or below it.

Why a fan?

For constant cooling of the laser diode to make sure it doesn't overheat and allowing constant duty cycle.

how does your laser module looks like ? i think in a few holes on L and R side would do the trick for a nice airflow

I just mean above or below the fan or both. Not 100% on how airflow works.

Oh wait you already have the fan inside ok then you should make holes above the fan =) so the air can pass out .

sorry for the crappy paintjob but

drill holes RED and the smaller RED holes then as the blue arrow is air comming in , trough the fan , and comes out as the GREEN arrows , that should be the airflow and so to keep your laser nice and cool

While I can definitely see how a laser, especially a 405nm laser, would look cool lighting up that lava lamp, you might think to just keep the original heating element in there and use the laser at a moderately lower power just for lighting purposes. Those lava lamps need quite a bit of heat to move the contents around, and using the laser for heat purposes would be a real waste, especially when you're trying to cool the thing down anyway.

I agree with weeba, as heat rises, any other airflow option would be pointless. How long are you planning on keeping it turned on? (I'm guessing always, just making sure)
