Update and confusion:

I only know of these wavelengths which exist in the 500mW range

405nm
445nm
532nm
650nm

Are there anymore? Only that won't make a very good rainbow ;)

My new red is pretty powerful with a 3 elements lens, and there is something gorgeous about the red beam

Ive never actually seen a high powered red in real life. Is the beam considerably brighter with the higher power 635? All I have is my ~300mW 650nm that can can faintly make out at night.

From personal experience, I can tell you that a 635 beam is significantly brighter than 650 beam. I cannot even see a 200mw 650, but a 700mw 635 is visible to me even at an angle - just keep in mind that its still not that bright compared to other colors.

Another thing to remember is that an overdriven 635 diode will shift somewhat towards 650, so it might be at 640nm for example.

never seen 520, sorry. For me personally, 50mw of 532 is brighter than 700mw of 635 - but I have a hard time seeing longer wavelengths. You can ask Tmack though.

Check out my album to see the 700mw 638nm next to a 370mw 532

You could get a single mode that hits 100 or even 150 in that host. The thinner beam should make up for some of the lack of power.

I can hardly get my 100mw 532 warm.
The 638nm does get pretty warm in about a min, but it's still bit over 500mW though. I was half kidding about the duty cycle. I've seen lead light bulbs go 190mw and are OK at a min. No 500mW though.
