DON'T use his "hack", it will leave you with a dead laser. Read around here to know exactly why you shouldn't do that.

Dude, you miles well tell him, lolz. KipKay's hack runs the diode directly off of the batteries, which is way more current than it can handle. Your diode will blow.
Also, we get froobs saying 'i have a cd drive will that work?" NO. Only DVD BURNER drives will have your powerful red laser.
If you're a bit nooby with electronics, you can get a DVD Burner diode already installed in an Aixiz housing from sales.stonetek.org. Harvesting diodes is more annoying than KipKay makes it out to be... You can get a driver (circuit to regulate current to the diode) from the Group Buys or Buy/Sell/Trade section and if you want to use a MiniMag, so be it. Most people prefer the Dorcy Jr. host, also found on Stonetek. Kenom is selling his sexy custom barrels as a host, they should work awesomely. That's pretty much it.
