(yes this is derivated from the old Sony PlayStation slogan)

I wonder why no one here is interessted in KES' sleds anymore. Of course, they cant mess with the new 6x in power, but they have their privilegies too. Especially the PBS cubes and the ability to make rogs RGB mod with it. And a low power diode is nice too, for safe pointers, and you can make it magenta ;)

So, is here some one left who sells them?
I tried my luck several times on ebay, missed the best offer of all times (6p for 20$) and lost many others.

but neeeeed them ;D

Who has the same feelings like me? Somebody expericenced could start an GB...

psxboy, http://www.psxboy.com/904_Damaged-KES-400A.html, is the only place that I am aware of that has them. At 26$+(3???IIRC) shipping it is on the steep side, but if u need it "quickly" that's your best bet.

Otherwise I would also be interested in a diode, to use as a pointer, if the price was low enough through a GB.

I have a few SF-AD112 diodes left. They work out better for pointers than the KES/PS3 diode. It lases as low as 8mA and I have driven it as high as 50mA with no problems. Over 50mA and the life expectancy becomes unpredictable. At 50mA I'm getting around 40mW after AixiZ acrylic. I'll let some go for what I paid for them -- $15 each, plus shipping.

If you are going to be needing the red crystal for combination work, you will still need to get the KES/PS3. If all you want is a low powered violet pointer, the SF-AD112 is the ticket.

Peace,
dave

Interesting daguin, are these SF-AD112 diodes from the HD-DVD standalone players? I have been considering going for a 811 (those lase pretty low as well IIRC) Have been thinking of building a nice BR pointer for some time now. I think that I may indeed be interested in taking one of your hands. :)  If possible, could you hold onto a diode for me until next month, damn blatant commercialism, December and February are money drainers.  :-/ What power would in your opinion be ideal for a BR pointer, 10mw or would the standard of 5mw be ok, have never seen a BR bellow 100mw ;).

"If you are going to be needing the red crystal for combination work" I don't quite follow this part of your post though, what red crystal are you referring to? The beamsplitter cube in the KES?

Thanks,
brtaman

daguin, where di you get the SF-AD112 diodes? maybe we should GB them too... ;)

These were "rescued" from a batch of Toshiba HD DVD players that were on their way to be scrapped. There's a guy on eBay that has them occasionally.

The DT-0811 diode would work as well, but they don't get as low as the SF and they are hard to find. If you would like, I'll set one of these aside for you.

For a small classroom (that can be darkened) I like 10mW. 10mW of 405nm light is very "dim." For normal lecture situations I like closer to 20mW. For large lecture halls, I like 30mW.

The "red crystal" comment refers to the PS3 diode. It has violet, red, and IR all in the same diode (with 5 pins in the back). They don't focus the same and they overheat if you power both crystals, but you can make magenta light for awhile with a fuzzy spot.

Peace,
dave

Yeah that would be great, daguin, early next month my wallet will be able to breathe again :).

Oh that's what you meant, I was aware of the fact that the ps3 diode is a combo diode, just the red crystal part didn't click in my brain, doh.

I'll PM you as soon as I can buy.

Thanks,
brtaman

I'll set one aside with your name on it.

That would be nice, but...
I dont trust my soldering skills, last time i tried to bring a driver on, i broke the pins of the diode ;)
So i would prefer an finished pointer - are you still building them?

I offered to another gentleman that I would build him a ~10mW unit for $60 plus shipping. I also have a 35mW unit already built that I will sell for $70 plus shipping. Since you are in Germany, you would have the choice of what method of shipment you would like. These use the two, 10440 batteries. You would need to get some batteries and a charger for them.

I was heaps into getting some KES-400A's but they'd probably be expensive...

And my countries $ is stuffed.

it was there plan all along :P
