I can kinda see the beam in daylight, and i tested it in a dark room and I could see the beam. The thing is, it's not that bright, it's pretty dim in comparison the the dot. Is this normal? Are all the shots I've seen of the beam just due to the camera?

I tried to see if I could pop a balloon. It worked on a red one from point blank(didn't test further), but it didn't work on a grey one from any distance, even with sharpies. Nothing else burns. I don't feel anything when pointing it on my hand. Is this around 50mW? Any way I can test it?

Also, the brightness of the dot is pretty high the first half second of pressing it, but then it goes down a little, and then back up, but not all the way. Is this a problem? Or is it normal?

thats normal for these cheap pens. the reason why you cant feel it on your hand is because ledshoppe lasers have a large beam diameter, so they are not good burners. if you want a comparison here is a video of my 30mw ledshoppe, and yes i used sharpie.

oh and pretty much all beam shots are taken with smoke.

Hmm mine doesnt do that. Its most likely caused by crystals that arent aligned perfectly. You cant expect the best from a 27$ laser. If you want quality go for Novalasers, dragonlasers, wickedlasers(debated), optotronics, laserglow, or anything from CNI(look in group buys section).

Nah, i'm good. I used spare change to buy this. Also, i noticed the beam comes out at an angle. Though, that doesn't seem as bad as the flickering light

OH NO! Now i have a problem. Now the dot is really dim, much less brighter than out of the box. I think it's making bad contact with the batteries.

No i just realized, the Duracell batteries i'm using are a bit shorter than the supplied ones. Supplied ones work fine, but the Duracell sometimes work if you shake the batteries to where they contact.

Tinfoil works to bridge the contacts, or any piece of metal really.

If I stretch a piece of balloon over it. I can see two dots, not one. At first it is one dot, but splits into two, just like the flickering

Then it is mode-hopping, DPSS lasers tend to do that when they heat up and more-so on the cheaper lasers.

Just received my LEDSHOPPE 50mw 532nm green laser.
it works perfectly with the battries supplied.
beam visible to as far as my sight goes (can see it on buildings at about 2 to 3 km away) i haven't tried burning anything - i didin't buy a laserpointer to such... i don't know what is the power output of my device, but it surely is stronger than a cheap ebaylaser that i had and pot modded it to its death.
i really liked the ledshoppe quality. the beam looks very round, and there is no blinks at start-up - this leads me to think all is working fine. i am using the supplied 1.5V alkalyne batteries - they look poor, but so far have worked great.

My final review is: going for your first above 5mW green? this one has a really good cost // benefict. should try it!
regards!

I lost that laser. It's only been like what, a week? :(

I have another ebay 5mW laser coming in, but it just won't be the same.

Still thrilled with my 50 mW silver pointer and 20 mW keychain lasers from LEDShoppe. From the look of the beam out my window at night, I'm not quite sure it's truly 50 mW (although I can see the beam, it breaks up a bit, however it does make it clear across town from 1st Ave in NYC all the way to a building in Jersey City across the Hudson), but for $24, I am cetainly not complaining. Both get the job done (e.g., in the clubs, they properly refract off of reflective surfaces etc. bouncing all over the place......hey simple pleasures, right????:p:p

CNI? Do you have a link?
